Old Pueblo District Boy Scout Spring Camporee


  • Amateur Radio activity at a district Boy Scout Camp-O-Ree
  • Hillman Ranch North of Oracle
  • Main event is Saturday, March 21, 2009
  • Setup starts Friday afternoon, March 20, 2009
  • We need to be up and operating at 9:30AM Saturday
  • Tear-down after 5:00PM Saturday
  • Access Restricted 7:45AM to 8:45AM Saturday for Opening Flag Ceremonies

  1. From Tucson Drive North on Highway 77 (Oracle Rd)
  2. Continue on HWY 77 past Oracle Junction (with 79)
  3. Continue on HWY 77 1.4 mi past the 1st junction to the town of Oracle

  4. After the Chaparral Market (on left shortly after the junction), look to the left for Camporee Signs and the gate (Entrance is at  32.623050N, 110.777211W)
  5. Turn left through the gate (Marked by Camporee signs - if you reach the 2nd turn-off to Oracle before seeing the gate you have gone too far on HWY 77)
  6. Proceed to the Registration area (about 0.9 mi.)
  7. Tell the Registration person that you are helping with the Amateur Radio event and ask for instructions
  8. Proceed about 0.4 Mi to the Ham radio shelter (just past the flag pole)
  9. Make sure to go to the right at the "Y" just before the flag pole
  10. Click on the Google map link below for directions from your location
  11. See the detailed activity area map near the bottom of the page
  12. Talk-in on 146.52MHz (check before leaving in case we have to change this)

Event Details:

  • Three Ham Radio Events
  • Main event is a APRS-based search

    • Half the scout patrol with APRS & compass on the search team
    • Other half at net control vector search team by radio
    • D* Link to internet and APRS database
    • Competitive points for participation, prizes for finding search targets
  • Bonus point station: PSK-31 or other HF
  • Bonus point station: Echolink or D* Hybrid internet/amateur radio
